  • Radio waves can be sent and received using aerials. An alternating current of high frequency in the transmitter causes electrons to oscillate up and down the aerial.
  • This causes an electromagnetic wave, consisting of electric and magnetic fields oscillating at right angles to each other and the direction of energy transfer.
  • When the wave reaches the receiving aerial, the fields cause electrons to oscillate up and down in it. This produces an alternating current of the same frequency as that in the transmitter.
  • Radio waves can be used to send and receive signals for TV and radio broadcasts.
