  • Acceleration is the rate at which an object’s speed is changing.
  • An object that is speeding up is accelerating. An object that is slowing down is decelerating.
  • The average acceleration of an object is given by the equation \(\text{acceleration}=\text{change in velocity}\div\text{time}\). This can be written as \(a=\dfrac{\Delta v}{t}\) where:
    • \(a\) is the average acceleration in m/s2
    • \(\Delta v\) is the change in velocity in m/s
    • \(t\) is the time in s
