  • Subject pronouns: are the words that tell us who is doing the action
    Pronoun Meaning
    yo I
    Tú, tus you [informal, singular], you [informal, plural]
    nosotros / nosotras we [masc./fem.]
    usted (Ud.) you [formal, singular]
    ustedes (Uds.) you all [formal, plural]
    vosotros / vosotras you all [informal plural]
    él he
    ella she
    ellos they [masc. or mixed]
    ellas they [feminine]
  • Interrogative pronouns: are used to ask questions about people or things. Some of them change form depending on gender and number.
    • Cuál / Cuáles (Which? / What?): changes for number but not gender.
      • ¿Cuál es tu color favorito? (What is your favourite color?)
      • ¿Cuáles son tus libros? (Which are your books?)
    • Cuánto / Cuánta / Cuántos / Cuántas (How much? / How many?): changes for gender and number, and must agree with the noun that follows.
      • Cuánto is used for singular masculine nouns – e.g. ¿Cuánto dinero tienes? (How much money do you have?)
      • Cuánta is used for singular feminine nouns – e.g. ¿Cuánta leche queda? (How much milk remains?)
      • Cuántos is used for plural masculine nouns – e.g. ¿Cuántos hermanos tienes? (How many brothers do you have?)
      • Cuántas used for plural feminine nouns – e.g. ¿Cuántas clases hay? (How many classes are there?)
    • Quién / Quiénes (Who?): changes for number only (not gender).
      • Quién is used for one noun – e.g. ¿Quién es ella? (Who is she?)
      • Quiénes is used for more than one noun – e.g. ¿Quiénes vienen a la fiesta? (Who is coming to the party?)
