  • We use comparative adverbs to compare how, when, or where things happen
Structure Meaning Example
más… que more… than

Ella corre más rápido que su hermano.

(She runs faster than her brother.)

menos… que less… than

Juan trabaja menos que Pedro.

(Juan works less than Pedro.)

tan… como as… as

Marta habla tan claro como Ana.

(Marta speaks as clearly as Ana.)

  • For numbers, use más/menos de + number. For example:
    • Tengo más de cinco libros. (I have more than five books.)
    • Hay menos de diez personas. (There are fewer than ten people.)
  • Some adverbs have irregular forms:
Base form Comparative Meaning Example
bien mejor better

Ella canta mejor que yo.

(She sings better than I do.)

mal peor worse

Él juega peor que su primo.

(He plays worse than his cousin.)
