  • Some questions will require you to translate an English text into natural Spanish. Remember that this is not meant to be a word-for-word literal translation. For example:
    • For the English text: I went to the beach with my family last summer. We swam in the sea, ate ice cream, and watched the sunset. It was an amazing day.’
    • The literal translation would be: ‘Yo fui a la playa con mi familia el último verano. Nosotros nadamos en el mar, comimos helado, y miramos el sol bajarse. Fue un día asombroso.’
    • But, the more natural translation would be: ‘Fui a la playa con mi familia el verano pasado. Nadamos en el mar, comimos helado y vimos la puesta de sol. Fue un día increíble.’
  • The examiners are looking for three things: accurate grammar, natural translation, and appropriate vocabulary.
  • If unsure of a word, use a synonym or rephrase.
