Upland Lowland
  • Scottish Highlands: rugged mountains made from hard-resistant rock like granite. This region is home to the highest mountain in the UK, Ben Nevis (1,345m).
  • Dartmoor: moorland in south-west UK made from granite (igneous rock).
  • The Lake District: a mountainous region in north-west England, with the greatest number of peaks ranging between 400-800 metre in height. However, it also includes higher peaks, such as Scafell Pike (978m), the highest mountain in England.
  • East Anglia: a lowland area made from weak sedimentary rocks such as clay, sand, and chalk. It is close to sea level, with flat terrain and fertile soils, ideal for farming.
  • Southern England: features lowland valleys and rolling hills, often found between areas of chalk (e.g. the South Downs) and limestone. These areas are known for their gentle relief and suitability for mixed farming.
