Tybalt is the nephew of Capulet’s wife and is the principle trouble maker of the Capulet family and arguably of the entirety of the play. He is an excellent fighter and as such he seeks out altercations with any excuse being a feasible reason for a physical engagement. He is even willing to start a fight at his uncle’s feast, after realising that Romeo, a Montague is in attendance, and is only halted by his uncle’s fury. Tybalt despises anyone who talks of peace between the two families. He does not care at all for Mercutio and does not hesitate to stab and kill him under Romeo’s arm when Mercutio races in to break up the fight. Tybalt flees the square, but his ego gets the best of him and he foolishly returns to where Romeo is furiously waiting. The two end up in an armed fight and Romeo avenges his friend’s death.
