In a room in the Capulet’s house, Lady Capulet is talking about her daughter Juliet with Juliet’s nurse. The nurse is then asked to call Juliet into the room. Lady Capulet informs Juliet about Paris’s proposal of marriage. She tells Juliet that Paris will be at the party that is happening in the evening and that she will have the chance to see how handsome her potential suitor is. The handsome nature of Paris is characterised by the nurse’s description of him as “a man of wax,” as though he is a sculpted figure of perfection. After hearing about Paris and his beauty, Juliet seems to be very obedient to her mother’s wishes, and it is clear that she becomes interested in Paris.
