The two children which emerge from the Ghost of Christmas Present’s robe are sickly, warped, deformed, and hideous, starkly juxtaposing the archetypal sweetness and gentleness of a child. These two children each symbolise want and ignorance respectively, and are described by the spirit as the product of mankind.
